Spring 2003

CH 314 BIOORGANIC CHEMISTRY

Library Project 1

This project is designed to give you some experience with reading, interpreting and writing about original research reports that deal with the study of enzyme structure.

The requirements for this project are:

  1. Choose an article from a current issue (last two or three years) of a biochemical journal. The article must be an original research report (not a review article) that deals with a structural study of an enzyme. The article may deal with any aspect of structure and may use structure to explain the enzymes catalytic mechanism, but the main focus of the work must be structure.

  2.
  3. Write a 4-5 page paper explaining your understanding of the article. Be sure to deal with the following points:
    1. The primary goal of the work.
    2. Who funded the research?
    3. The major experimental techniques used in the study.
    4. The authors' conclusions.
    5. Your evaluation of the quality of the author's arguments. Were their argument persuasive and did their results fully support their conclusions?

    6.

Schedule for completion:
  1. On or before Friday, January 31, submit a photo copy of your chosen article to me.

  2.
  3. On Friday, February 14, papers are due by 5:00 PM
