Spring 2003
CH 314 BIOORGANIC CHEMISTRY
Library Project 2
This project is designed to give you some experience with
reading and interpreting original research reports that deal with the study
of enzyme reaction mechanisms and with making an oral presentation of a
scientific study.
The requirements for this project are:
-
Choose an article from a current issue (last two or three
years) of a biochemical journal. The article must be an original research
report (not a review article) that deals with the study of the mechanism
of action of some enzyme and utilizes at least one of the techniques that
we have discussed this semester.
-
Prepare and give a 10 min. oral presentation that gives
an overview of the study described in your paper and an explanation of
the data that supports the author’s conclusions. The presentations will
be given in class, three each, on April 23 and 25.
-
Submit a one page written summary of your presentation.
-
Read the articles chosen by other class members and be
prepared to comment on their presentations and ask questions.
Schedule for completion:
-
On Friday, March 14, select a date for your presentation.
-
On or before Friday, April 11, submit a photo copy of
your chosen article. I will make copies of articles and distribute them
to other members of the class on Friday, April 18.
-
On May 2 (last day of class), the summary papers for all
presentations are due .
