I am interested in trying to understand how oxidative enzymes go about facilitating reactions. The hope is that by understanding the "mechanisms of action" of enzymes we acquire a better general sense of how any specific reaction can be facilitated. This new understanding should then allow us design non-enzymatic catalysts that can carry out specific reactions under a wider variety of conditions than is possible with enzymes.
My current projects involve both the direct study of enzymatic reactions and studies of simple chemical reactions that model enzyme reactions.
