MoCoSIN Remote Access over the Internet
Those wishing to access MoCoSIN from either the campus network or off campus should SSH directly to unix.best.cs.moravian.edu (batboat, batplane, batmobile).
Those who access MoCoSIN remotely primarily to check
their e-mail should consider the improved webmail
server.
MoCoSIN users can now access their shell account at any time, from
anywhere in the world, using a protocol called
Secure
Shell (SSH). SSH provides an encrypted, safe connection to MoCoSIN, and adds several
other functionalities for more advanced users.
(For those who have used Telnet and FTP in the past, these methods of access are basically
insecure and are being phased out.)
SSH Clients
SSH requires a client program that does not come with most
computers. MoCoSIN may be accessed with any of the following free software:
Windows users should get the excellent SSH
for Windows from SSH Communications Security,
Inc.
Macintosh users can run
MacSSH.
The OpenSSH project offers an open-source
client for UNIX, plus links to several other alternatives.
Using SSH
Point your client to unix.best.cs.moravian.edu, and you will always be
directed to the most available server.
