If you are able to meet the demands of responsible
life, but if your daily work, your emotional life, your family
or your hobbies are not sufficient, or if the religion or philosophy
you practice does not answer your fundamental questions, consider
broadening your search...
Some ways of searching may seem one-sided by putting
too much emphasis on a single aspect of self-development . The
first way involves mastering the body, such as practiced by the
fakir. In the second, emphasis is on emotional control, as practiced
by monks. The third way, that of the yogi, aims at developing
the mind through acquisition of knowledge.
A fourth way also exists, which promotes the continuous
search for the harmonious development of the physical, the emotional
and the intellectual life. By challenging complacency, this way
reveals aspects of ourselves heretofore unknown. These discoveries
then act as a springboard to further the search into our inner
world for the meaning of our existence.
Aspects of the work include self-observation, understanding
and considering others, identifying and avoiding self-pity, remembering
oneself, one's aims, one's environment, refraining from expressing
negative emotions, maintaining a questioning attitude where answers
are deemed temporary and personal. The group meetings offer movements,
physical work, inner exercises, meditations, readings and short
discussions. Social interaction between members of the group is
to be kept at a minimum.
This branch of the work was first inspired by Paul
Henry Beidler from Northeon Forest in Pennsylvania. Today it is
continued by adherents. This search builds on ancient traditions,
including the Gurdjieff Work. After several years of efforts,
you may reach a level of increased self-knowledge, an understanding
of your strengths and limitations, the ability to rely on yourself,
to obtain direction from your conscience, to create a meaning
to your life.
Our group meets on Thursdays from 8 to 9:30 p.m.,
and on Sundays from 8 to 11:30 a.m., near Wakefield, a 20 minute
drive from the Byward Market. If you wish to embark on an 'adventure
in awareness', with no financial cost, you can reach us at
(819)827-3327 or (819)682-1830, or by email at The Wakefield Group.
